Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#16 Mammoths draw #8 Middlebury, 0-0

MIDDLEBURY, VT. — The Amherst College men's soccer team hit the road again on Saturday, traveling nearly three hours north to take on Middlebury College at South Street Field. Coming off a commanding midweek win over Anna Maria, the Mammoths were tested in a gritty defensive battle against the Panthers. After 90 minutes of physical, end-to-end play, neither side could break through, and the match ended in a scoreless draw.

The result extends Amherst's unbeaten start to the season and highlights the team's defensive resilience, as the Mammoths once again shut out a strong conference opponent.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Middlebury came out firing, earning three corners in the opening 13 minutes, but Amherst quickly steadied the game and answered with corners of their own in the 15th and 17th minutes.
  • The Mammoths began to tilt momentum in their favor shortly after, forcing Middlebury's goalkeeper to make two key saves — first on a strike from Jacob Dinzeo in the 19th minute, then on an attempt from Mohammed Nuhu in the 21st minute.
  • In the second half, the Panthers pushed forward aggressively, outshooting Amherst 8–0, but the Mammoths' back line held firm. Despite heavy pressure and a chippy, physical tone to the match, Amherst's defense did not bend.
BY THE NUMBERS:
  • On the attack, Mohammed Nuhu led the team with two shots, while Leo Wilensky and Jacob Dinzeo each tallied one shot.
  • Middlebury finished with a 9–3 edge in corner kicks, but Amherst's defense stayed organized and was able to clear every attempt.
  • The match was a physical battle from start to finish, with 30 fouls and seven yellow cards issued between the two sides.
  • Goalkeeper Trey Sheppard, alongside defenders James Street, Riley Priddy, and Timothy Chow, anchored the back line, all playing the full 90 minutes to preserve the clean sheet. This marks the Mammoths' third consecutive shutout.
UP NEXT:
  • With the draw, the Mammoths' record now stands at 3-0-3 overall and 2-0-2 in NESCAC play.
  • In just three days, on Tuesday, September 23 at 4:30 p.m., Amherst will return to the field to host Babson College in a non-conference match-up on Hitchcock Field.
