Thompson Lau of the Amherst College men's lacrosse team has been selected as an Academic All-American for the second year in a row. Lau was named to the 2025 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Second Team for Division III by College Sports Communicators.
Lau earned the 49th Academic All-America selection in Amherst history dating back to 1982. He is the sixth Amherst student-athlete and first Amherst lacrosse player to earn multiple career Academic All-America selections. Lau is also the only junior with multiple career Academic All-America selections on this year's Division III at-large teams.
Lau just completed his junior year with a 3.98 GPA. The Pittsburgh native is a double major in economics and mathematics. He was one of the recipients of this year's Samuel Walley Brown Scholarship, awarded to the Amherst students who rank highest in their class in character, class leadership, scholarship and athletic ability.
On the field, Lau tallied 52 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers while remaining a threat in transition with two goals and one assist in 16 games this season. He was named an All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine and earned honorable mention All-America accolades from the US Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, while also being tabbed for All-New England and All-NESCAC honors.
The Academic All-America teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field of play and in the classroom. The teams are selected from Academic All-District honorees by the membership of College Sports Communicators, with teams named in 14 sports and the at-large teams that cover sports not represented by their own team. This year's Division III men's at-large teams feature 46 student-athletes who compete in fencing, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Lau is one of 12 men's lacrosse players included on this year's Division III teams.
