Edred Opie of the #19 Amherst College men's tennis team were awarded First Team All-NESCAC selections when they were announced earlier today. Sillaste earned First Team singles distinction, and both Sillaste and doubles partner Opie were accorded First Team doubles honors.
The sophomore from Finland takes home All-NESCAC honors after recording a 15-10 singles record and a 17-9 doubles record this year. His 2024-25 selections are his second straight to both All-NESCAC First Team after taking home those same honors last spring. Sillaste adds these to a growing list of accolades that also includes the both the 2023-24 NESCAC and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rookie of the Year awards. He also earned a selection to the NCAA Tournament Singles draw, making a Quarterfinal appearance.
Opie's selection is the first of his career and puts a bow on a great final collegiate season for the senior from Chippenham, England. Over the course of the year, he has racked up an impressive 19-8 doubles record while also seeing time in the Mammoths' singles ladder. He and Sillaste have recorded 15 wins as a pair this season.
After posting a 15-7 record through the NESCAC Tournament, the Mammoths earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Championship tournament, which begins this weekend. They will begin their quest for a third national Championship at Tufts for the first three rounds, opening play on Friday, May 9 against Oswego State.
