NEW LONDON, Conn. -- First-year Gavin Schmidt established a new program record in the discus as select members of the Amherst College men's track and field team competed in the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
The top eight performers in each event earn All-New England honors. Only sending four competitors to the championships, Amherst tied for 24th out of 34 scoring teams. Wesleyan won the team title with 80 points after having only placed among the top-10 once in the 45-year history of the meet.
Amherst will return to the track next weekend split between the NEICAAA Outdoor Championships and the Farley Inter-Region Extravaganza on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Schmidt broke another school record as the rookie registered a distance of 50.95m in the discus, placing second out of 28 competitors. This surpasses the program record of senior David Brown who threw 49.40m in 2024.
* First-year Finn O'Hara placed seventh in the 800m and earning All-New England honors, clocking in a time of 1:55.44.
