Four Mammoths selected to CSC Academic All-District Team

AMHERST, Mass. -- Four members of the Amherst College men's tennis team were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, announced earlier today: seniors Sujit Chepuri and Edred Opie and sophomores Rex Harrison and Spencer Leung

The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and have played in 90 percent or started 66 percent of their team's games to be eligible.

Chepuri is a majoring in biochemistry and biophysics from Minneapolis, Minn. The senior finished the season with a 16-7 singles record for a .70 win percentage and an impressive 22-6 doubles record for an overall win percentage of .79. 

Opie is double majoring in economics and mathematics from Chippenham, England. The senior earned his first All-NESCAC selection this year, earning All-NESCAC First Team Doubles honors after recording a 20-9 record for a .69 win percentage while also finishing with an 18-11 (.62 win percentage) singles record. 

Harrison is an astronomy and physics double major from La Jolla, Calif. The sophomore concluded his season posting a 15-10 singles record for a .60 win percentage and a 15-9 doubles record for a .63 win percentage. 

Leung is pursuing a degree in mathematics from Tiburon, Calif. Primarily competing in doubles for the Mammoths this season, the sophomore produced a winning record of 13-12 for a .52 win percentage. 

The Mammoths finished 16-8 this season, making an appearing in the NESCAC Semifinal and receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. Eleventh-ranked Amherst defeated Oswego State in the NCAA First Round before falling to #12 RPI in the NCAA Second Round to conclude their season.
