#11 Amherst Edged by #12 RPI Engineers in NCAA Second Round, 4–3

BEVERLY, MA – The #11 Amherst College men's tennis team saw its 2024–25 season come to an end in a 4–3 heartbreaker against the #12 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 on Saturday. Played indoors at the Bass River Tennis Club due to rain, the match lived up to its billing as one of the most competitive showdowns of the national bracket.

Amherst wraps up its season with a 16–8 overall record and 8–4 mark against NESCAC opponents, marking the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019. The Mammoths showed depth and grit all season and have a strong foundation to build on heading into 2025–26.


For sophomore Andreas Sillaste, the season continues—he will compete in the NCAA Singles Championship starting Saturday, May 24 at the Biszantz Tennis Center in Claremont, CA.


HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Senior Sujit Chepuri and first-year Albert Hu won their doubles match at the #3 spot with a score of 6–4
  • First-year Aldiyar Abzhan secured his 16th singles win of the season with a 6–3, 6–2 decision at #3.
  • Senior Kobe Ellenbogen earned Amherst's third singles point, winning 6–3, 7–6(8) at the #6 position in his final collegiate match.
