Kuzyk breaks 48-year-old program record at Amherst Spring Fling

AMHERST, Mass. -- Sophomore Alec Kuzyk established a new program record as the Amherst College men's track and field team hosted the Amherst Spring Fling on Saturday. 

Amherst will split competition between the Carla Coffey Invitational and the Silfen Invitational on Friday, April 11.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Kuzyk broke a 48-year-old program record in the pole vault by registering a mark of 4.60m. This surpasses the mark of 4.57m set by Richard Minicus '78 in 1977. 

* Sophomore Harrison Talcott opened the day for the Mammoths finishing second in the 3000m steeplechase by recording a personal best of 9:27.29 while first-year Gregory Baldinucci placed fourth overall with a time of 9:47.02. 

* The 4x100m relay team of first-year Kean Tanyi-Tang, and juniors Cody PierceAlexander Nichols, and Jordan Harrison placed second overall in a time of 41.49. 

* Sophomore Stan Craig placed third overall in the 1500m, crossing the line in 3:56.53. 

* In the 800m junior Will Nagy finished second posting a time of 1:54.69 while sophomore Josh Thomas finished fifth overall recording a personal best time of 1:56.13. 

* Senior Nick Edwards-Levin won the 5000m clocking in a time of 14:53.11 while first-year Austin Brown delivered a personal best of 15:07.64 which was good for fifth overall. 
 

* The 4x400m Amherst A relay team of senior Jai Dreher, Tanyi-Tang, first-year Will Diana, and Nagy placed second with a time of 3:23.18. 

* In the field, junior Charlie Spurrell placed second overall in the hammer, producing a season best of 54.89m while senior David Brown recorded a personal best mark of 51.48m.

* Senior Kevin Ryu posted a third-place finish in the javelin throwing a distance of 47.90m. 

* Sophomore Kaleb Barrett placed third in the long jump notching a mark of 6.22m.

* First-year Gavin Schmidt won the shot put recording a season best distance of 14.65m before winning the discus with a mark of 42.13m. 

* Sophomore Michael Abbey Jr. placed second in the high jump posting a height of 1.98m while senior Alex Robin jumped 1.88m. 

* First-year Christoph Osselmann-Chai placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.15m.

* Abbey Jr. finished in second place in the triple jump producing a jump of 13.25m. 

* Brown placed second in the discus throwing a distance of 40.76m while sophomore Jacob Shine placed fourth with a mark of 38.92m.
