SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Seniors
Ryan McIntyre and
A.J. Zaccareo each went 3 for 5 Tuesday to pace a 15-hit attack as the Amherst College baseball team picked up its first win of the 2025 season with a 9-2 decision over Springfield College at the Pride's Archie Allen Field.
The Mammoths evened their record at 1-1. The Pride slipped to 0-3 on the young season. Amherst is back in action Saturday with a doubleheader in Mahwah, New Jersey against Ramapo College. First pitch of the first game Saturday is slated for 11 a.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Amherst jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. First-year
Leo Foust drew a lead-off walk but was forced out at second on a
Jack Boyle grounder.
Jack McDermott singled Foust to second and both players advanced one base on a wild pitch.
Jack Sampedro followed with a two-run double down the left-field line to score both runners.Â
* Leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Amherst added two more runs.
Tyler McCord reached on an error leading off and, after the first out, Zaccareo roped a double down the left-field line that scored McCord. Foust followed with a triple to left that scored Zaccareo for the three-run lead.Â
* Two more runs in the fifth upped the Mammoths lead to 6-1. McIntyre led off the frame with a triple to center field. After an out, McCord lined an inside-the-park home run to center.
* In the sixth, Boyle tripled toleft center and scored on a McDermott sacrifice fly to take a 7-1 lead.
* Sophomore
Matt Tabet earned the win, going the first four frames and giving up just one run while allowing three hits and three walks while striking out three. First-year
Walker Dellinger made his collegiate debut, fanning three and walking three over two shutout innings.Â
