AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Down by 5 heading into the 7th inning, the Amherst College baseball team scored 11 runs over the final three frames Friday to take down Framingham State, 16-12, at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
Amherst won its third straight game to improve to 6-4 overall and 4-1 on its spring trip to Florida. The Mammoths conclude that trip with a twinbill Saturday morning against Coe College with the firist game beginning at 9:45 at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths banged out 18 hits in the win. First-year
Justin Orridge went 5 for 5 with a walk.
Jack Sampedro went 3 for 6 with three runs scored. Orridge,
Jack Boyle and
Ben Smith had 3 RBI each.
Charlie LaFreniere scored four runs and went 2 for 4.
* Amherst entered the top of the seventh trailing 10-5 after a the Rams fostered a six-run bottom of the fifth to re-take the lead. Sampedro led off with a single and took third on an error that put LaFreniere on first. Orridge singled up the middle to score Sampedro and make it 10-6. After a wild pitch,
Matthew Chen walked to load the bases. With two outs,
Aiden Dubetsky hit a grounder which was misplayed into a two-run error. He then stole second to put runners on second and third for
Jack Boyle, who promptly lined a two-run single to right that tied the game 10-10.
* Boyle then stole second and third. After
Tyler McCord walked and stole second, a wild pitch allowed Boyle to score with the go-ahead run.
* Framingham rallied for two in the bottom of the seventh to re-take the lead again at 12-11. Amherst answered with three runs in the top of the eighth.
Ryan McIntyre and LaFreniere were hit by pitches to start the frame. A passed ball moved the runners up for Orridge, who grounded a two-run single up the middle for a 13-12 Amherst lead. Orridge took second on an error and Chen reached on another error.

Ben Smith then lined an RBI-double down the left-field line to score Orridge with a 14-12 lead.

Adrian Caron retired the Rams in order in the bottom of the eighth, striking out the first two batters of the frame.
* Amherst added two more runs in the top of the ninth to take a 16-12 lead. LaFreniere had an RBI-single and later scored on a balk.
* Sampedro came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order.
