Jaden Olson and first-year
Jack Goepfrich each earned All-America honors to highlight action for the Amherst College men's swimming and diving team on the second day of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. It was the first career All-America finish for both Olson and Goepfrich.
Olson touched second in the consolation final of the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 47.87 seconds to place 10th overall and earn Second Team All-America honors, awarded to the 9th through 16th place finishers in each event. Junior
Fynlan Nadel placed 41st in the same event with a personal-best time of 50.01 seconds.
Goepfrich swam a time of 1:38.43 in the preliminaries of the 200-yard freestyle to qualify for the consolation final and posted a mark of 1:39.54 in the evening session to place 16th overall and earn Second Team All-America honors.
Olson and Nadel also teamed up with junior
Ethan Van De Water and senior
Andrew Yuen to compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the Mammoths finishing in 1:23.48 to place 26th overall.
The Mammoths have earned eight points through Thursday's action, placing Amherst in 32nd place in the team standings. Halfway through the meet, Denison leads with 166 points.
The national championship meet runs through Saturday (March 22) with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. each day with the finals session kicking off at 6 p.m. each evening. Friday's action will see Nadel competing in the 100-yard breaststroke and the Mammoths swimming in the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay.
