#13 Amherst Suffers Heartbreak 5-4 Loss to #11 Tufts in NESCAC Championship Semifinals

HARTFORD, CT — The #13 Amherst College women's squash team fell just short in a hard-fought battle against the #11 Tufts University Jumbos, suffering a narrow 5-4 defeat in the NESCAC Championship Semifinals at the George A. Kellner Squash Courts on Sunday morning. Despite a strong effort across the lineup, the Mammoths couldn't overcome the Jumbos in a match that came down to the wire.

Up Next: With the loss, Amherst moves to 13-5 on the season and 9-2 versus NESCAC opponents. The Mammoths will now focus on their next match on Friday, February 21st. At 6pm on the Davenport Squash Courts, Amherst will host the #26 St. Lawrence University Saints. The Saints currently have a 4-5 season record.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

At the #1 and #2 spots, respectively, senior Tanmai Pathak and sophomore Quincy Cline both prevailed after going the distance in five-set thrillers. Pathak won the final set with a score of 11-9 while Cline recovered from behind to win the last two sets with scores of 11-5 and 11-6.
Junior Alex Brown won at the #3 spot in by winning each of her three sets by just two points.
Junior Morgan Chaudhary earned Amherst's fourth win of the day versus Nieve Monderer at the #7 spot in four sets.
