Gavin Schmidt broke his own school record in the shot put while sophomore
Alec Kuzyk established a new program record in the pole vault as the Amherst College men's track and field team won six events and established 12 New England Division III qualifying standards on the second day of the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
Amherst will split between the Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University (9 a.m.) and the Tufts Invitational (10 a.m.) on Saturday, February 15.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* First-year
Kean Tanyi-Tang finished third in the 60m finals in a time of 7.06
* In the 200m, Tanyi-Tang placed second overall crossing the line in 22.73.
* Junior
Ben Davis won the 600m by over two seconds registering a time of 1:20.30. Davis' performance ranks ninth all-time in Division III and second in program history after Division III record holder Ben Scheetz.
* Senior
Nick Edwards-Levin won the 1000m clocking in a winning time of 2:28.17 while sophomore
Josh Thomas placed fifth recording a time of 2:33.97.
* In the mile, sophomore
Stan Craig placed fourth overall delivering a time of 4:17.73.
* Sophomore
Harrison Dow finished fourth in the 3000m notching a time of 8:38.46.
* Senior
Luke Munch won the 5000m producing a winning time of 16:20.78.
* Junior
Noah Kanahele Harris won the 60m hurdle finals registering a time of 8.58 while first-year
Christoph Osselmann-Chai placed third in a time of 8.73.
* The 4x400m relay team of senior
Jai Dreher, Davis, junior
Cody Pierce, and Tanyi-Tang finished fourth in a time of 3:30.13.
* Kuzyk won the pole vault delivering a mark of 4.71m which establishes a new program record for the Mammoths, surpassing Troy Colleran's '22 record of 4.60m set in 2022. Osselmann-Chai also performed well in the pole vault, posting a height of 4.35m to place as the runner up.
* In the long jump, sophomore
Michael Abbey Jr. placed fourth overall with a jump of 6.58m.
* Rookie
Bohan Zheng finished fifth in the triple jump posting a distance of 12.40m.
* First-year
Gavin Schmidt surpassed the program record he recently set in the shot put throwing a distance of 16.33m to beat his previous mark of 15.27m and win the overall event while senior
David Brown threw a distance of 14.63m to place fourth.
* Junior
Charlie Spurrell placed third overall in the weight throw delivering a mark of 15.64m while Brown posted a distance of 15.49m.
