SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Junior
Charlie Spurrell established a new program record in the weight throw to win the event while sophomore
Alec Kuzyk surpassed his program record in the pole vault as six total Mammoths won individual events leading the Amherst College men's track and field team to a team victory at the Triangle Classic hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.
The Mammoths finished the day with 13 points to claim the team victory while Tufts placed second with 10 and Connecticut College (6), Trinity (6), WPI (3), and Springfield (1) rounded out the field.
Amherst will resume competition at the New England Division III Indoor Championships hosted at the TRACK at New Balance on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Junior
Charlie Spurrell won the weight throw, recording a two-meter personal record of 17.76m and establishing a new program record for the Mammoths. Spurrell's throw surpasses the previous record of 17.58m set by Sam Amaka '19 in 2019.
* Kuzyk won the pole vault producing a height of 4.75m, surpassing his school record of 4.71m that was established earlier this season.
* Sophomore
Mike Gerfen placed second in the 60m hurdle prelims with a personal best of 8.73 seconds while first-year Osselmann-Chai finished third posting a time of 8.79. In the final round, Osselmann-Chai won the event registering a personal best of 8.61 while Gerfen finished fourth.
* Sophomore
Parker Boyle finished as the runner up in the mile, recording a personal best of 4.17.30 .
* Junior
Ben Davis won the 400m, clocking in a personal record of 50.47.
* In the 800, Boyle crossed the line with a winning time of 1:57.47 while senior
Aidan Gemme placed second posting a personal best of 1:58.28.
* Amherst recorded the top three times in the 3000m as first-year
Ben Kasen led the field with a personal best of 8:44.14. Sophomore
Harrison Talcott finished as the runner up delivering a personal record of 8:45.88 while classmate
Sam Young placed third in 8:57.61.
* In the long jump, first-year
Matt Kasper placed second overall recording a personal best mark of 6.64m.
* Junior
Zach Villegas placed second overall in the heptathlon, totaling 4103 points.
