Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Flynn's two markers help #5 Mammoths top Trinity, 4-1

AMHERST, Mass.– Two quick goals late in the first period, just 23 seconds apart, from Maeve Reynolds and Bea Flynn gave the Mammoths an early edge over the Trinity College Bantams. Flynn earned another goal alongside Ayla Abban to cap off the scoring, securing a 4-1 victory for Amherst.

The women's ice hockey team advances to a 16-5-1 record overall and a 9-4-1 record in the conference.

Tune in for Amherst's final two games of the regular season against Hamilton College Friday (Feb. 21) at 7 p.m.  and Saturday (Feb. 22) at Orr Rink.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Following a face-off controlled by the Bantams, a clear through the low slot was intercepted by Amherst's Marie-Eve Marleau, where she ripped a shot. Off the rebound, Reynolds collected the puck and buried it into the net with 53.7 seconds remaining in the first period.
  • Just 23 seconds after the Mammoth's first goal, the boards caught a lifted clear out of Trinity's zone. Grethcen Dann got a skate on it and pushed it to Flynn, who snapped a wrist shot at goal, finding the top right corner of the net from the left face-off circle for a 2-0 advantage.
  • Bantam's Marta Mazzochi skated up the left side of the ice into Amherst's zone and the left face-off circle and sent it towards the crease for Gabriela Gross to skate onto for a scramble to ensue in the crease. Off of a rebound, Mazzochi slipped the puck into the goal by the low slot with 1:12 remaining in the second period.
  • Mammoth Ayla Abban sent the puck back to Gretchen Dann by the left point so she could send it across to Emily Hohmann. Hohmann aimed the puck towards the net for Flynn to get the tip into the net for her second goal of the evening with 4 minutes remaining of the final period.
  • A clear out of the Mammoth's zone from Dann gave Abban a breakaway toward the Bantam's empty net for the final goal of the evening at 17:59 in the final period.
