Two Goals from Mancini helps #5 Amherst Cruise Past Hamilton with 5-1 Victory

AMHERST, Mass. – The #5 Amherst College women's ice hockey team continued their strong season with a commanding 5-1 victory over Hamilton College on Friday night at Orr Rink. A balanced offensive attack saw four different goal scorers for the Mammoths, while goaltender Natalie Stott turned away 23 shots to secure the win.

With this victory, Amherst improves to 17-5-1 overall and 10-4-1 in NESCAC play, while Hamilton falls to 11-10-2 (6-7-2 NESCAC).

The Mammoths will look to carry this momentum into their final regular-season game against Hamilton on Saturday, February 22, at 3 p.m. The Mammoths will celebrate Senior Day as they aim to close out the regular season on a high note before heading into the NESCAC tournament. Amherst will honor their six seniors, Maggie Groszek, Kelsey Stewart, Alyssa XuAnna Baxter, Julia Weiss, and Kaila Bush.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The Mammoths struck first on the power play when Emily Hohmann converted a feed from Cara Mancini and Clare O'Connor at 9:24 in the first period to give Amherst a 1-0 lead.
  • The Continentals evened the score at 1-1 at 15:18 of the first period when Abby Weiss netted a goal off assists from Grace Long and Katie Allen.
  • Amherst regained the lead just before the first intermission, as Alyssa Xu finished a slick passing sequence from Marie-Eve Marleau and Maeve Reynolds to put the Mammoths up 2-1 at 19:02.
  • Amherst extended their advantage early in the second period when Cara Mancini found the back of the net off assists from Reynolds and Xu at 3:22. Later, Ayla Abban added an unassisted goal at 11:23 to make it 4-1.
  • Cara Mancini added her second goal of the night on the power play at 7:53 of the third period, securing Amherst's 5-1 victory.

  • Amherst dominated in the circle, winning 36 of 57 faceoffs.
