AMHERST, Mass. -- Two members of the Amherst College field hockey team were named to All-NFHCA Honors, the organization announced today.

Junior defender Maya Harrington (Highland Village, TX) and sophomore midfielder Katie Savino (Darien, Conn.) each were accorded All-NFHCA Second Team.

Maya Harrington has been a key player since her freshman year. She was awarded All-NESCAC second team this year and tallied two goals and two assists this season, highlighting the versatility of her skillset being a defender.

"Both Maya and Katie put together strong, consistent regular seasons that helped them earn All-NESCAC honors and set the foundation for our team's success this fall," Mammoths' head coach Carol Knerr said. "Their individual contributions played a key role in our group's late-season fortitude—winning our final two regular-season games and securing a spot in the NCAA Tournament, one of our most important goals."

Katie Savino was also a key component of the Mammoths midfield which reigned true when she received All-NESCAC second team this season. She was part of the reason that the Mammoths allowed just 1.61 goals per game this year.

"In postseason play, Katie showcased her strength and athleticism, while Maya's competitiveness and hunger to win elevated our team on both ends of the field," Knerr said. "I'm thrilled they've each earned All-Region honors; the recognition is well deserved. I know both of them — and our entire team — will carry this momentum into next season."

Amherst finished 9-9 and made its first NCAA Tourament appearance since 2011.
