Mammoths fall in three sets to crosstown foe Springfield College

AMHERST, Mass – The Amherst College Volleyball team fell to Springfield College in Lefrak Gymnasium on Thursday night (25-18, 25-21, 25-19). 

The Mammoths fall to 5-5 on the season while Springfield advances to 17-2. The Mammoths will be back in action at home on Saturday, October 11, to face NESCAC foe, Wesleyan University (CT). 
 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

* The Springfield Pride got off to a hot start in the first set, taking an 11-3 lead off a 7-point run. Senior Charlotte Rasmussen had seven kills in the set in an effort to keep the Mammoths in the set. A service ace from Judith Subirats-Bosch, a combined kill from Chideraa Ngwadom and Sofia Camilo, and an ace from Zosia Teraszkiewicz narrowed the gap between the teams, but Springfield took the set, 25-18.

* Springfield stayed on the offense in the second set, coming out with a commanding lead 7-2. Down 13-5, the Mammoths went on a 6-point run, with kills from Rasmussen, Ngwadom, Camilo, and Stella Jacey bringing the score to 13-11. Jacey also had a service ace. The Mammoths managed to keep the score close, but Springfield came away with the win, 25-21.

* The Mammoths battled in the third set, using the momentum from the second set to carry them to an early lead. The Mammoths had a 7-point run, with three service aces and a kill from Ngwadom giving the Mammoths an 8-3 lead. Gabrielle Hines and Brielle Renwick also had kills in the set. The two teams traded points back and forth through the middle of the set, but the Pride had a late 6-point run to take the lead, and they pulled away with the set, 25-19.

* Rasmussen led the Mammoths with 11 kills on the night.

* Chideraa Ngwadom had 3 service aces and 2 blocks during the match.

* Jacey led the Mammoths with 11 digs.
