WATERVILLE, Maine – The Amherst College Volleyball team fell to the Mules of Colby College in a hard-fought 3-set match on Saturday afternoon (25-13, 25-12, 25-21).
The Mammoths move to 5-4 overall (2-3 in the NESCAC) and the Mules advance 13-1 overall (3-1 in the NESCAC). The Mammoths will be back in action on Thursday, October 9th at 7pm, as they face Springfield College.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* The Mammoths and the Mules traded points at the beginning of the set, with
Sofia Camilo earning kills for Amherst. The Mules went on a 5-point run in the middle of the set to take the lead, 14-6. Ellie Meyers and
Charlotte Rasmussen each had kills, and
Chideraa Ngwadom and Camilo combined for a block to keep the Mammoths in the set. The Mules stayed strong and had another strong run late in the set, winning 25-13.
* Colby was dominant again in the second set, stifling the Mammoth offense. Rasmussen and
Tiana Richardson both had early kills, but the Mules responded with points of their own. In the middle of the set, first-year
Gabrielle Hines had a kill and a combined block with Ngwadom. The strong effort wasn't enough from the Mammoths, and the Mules came out on top, 25-12.
* The Mammoths battled hard in the third set, taking a decisive lead early on with kills from Rasmussen and Ngwadom and service aces from
Addison Lau and
Zosia Teraszkiewicz. With the score tied, 13-13, the Mules scored the next 4 of 5 points to take the lead. The Mammoths never trailed by more than 3 late in the set, with back-to-back kills from Meyers and a block from Lau and Ngwadom keeping the Mammoths in it. Lau had a late kill, but the Mules took the match, 25-21.
