AMHERST, Mass – The Amherst Volleyball team fell short Friday night against the Camels of Connecticut College. The Mammoths battled through four sets, winning the second (16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 20-25). The Mammoths fall to 5-7 on the season (2-5 NESCAC) while the Camels move to 10-8 (2-5 NESCAC).

The Mammoths will look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they face Trinity College (CT) at 2 pm in LeFrak Gymnasium.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

* The Camels had an offensive edge in the first set, never trailing the Mammoths after the first two points. Addison Lau had two kills early in the set, and Ellie Meyers and Charlotte Rasmussen each notched one kill to keep the score close. The Camels responded with kills of their own. Later in the set, two kills from Gabrielle Hines and two from Sofia Camilo, along with an ace from Rasmussen, narrowed the gap to 18-15 in favor of the Camels. The Mammoths weren't able to keep their momentum, and the Camels took the set, 25-16.

* The second set was a story of the Mammoth's offensive power. Kills from Chideraa Ngwadom, Brielle Renwick, Lau, and Hines brought the Mammoths out to an early 9-3 lead. The Camels had a 6-point run late in the set to bring the score to 21-19 in favor of the Mammoths, but kills from Alexandra Trofort and Rasmussen were enough to keep the lead for the Mammoths. Amherst took the second set, 25-21.

* The third set was another close battle, with both teams trading points early on. Lau and Tiana Richardson combined for a block, Richardson had two big kills, and Rasmussen notched a kill to tie the set, 11-11. The teams continued to go back and forth, but with the score tied 18-18, the Camels showed their offensive prowess, going on a 5-point run. Richardson had another late kill in an attempt to keep the Mammoths alive, but the Camels took the set, 25-19.

* The Mammoths took the lead in the fourth set, with three first-years earning points for Amherst. Judith Subirats-Bosch started the scoring with a service ace. Hines and Lau each had two kills to give the Mammoths a 7-3 lead. The Camels didn't relent, though, tying the set at 11 each. The Camels then went on to score the next 8 of 10 points, taking a substantial lead, 19-13. The Mammoths battled late in the set with Rasmussen and Richardson notching kills and Renwick and Lau earning a combined block, but it wasn't enough, and the Camels took the set and the match, 25-20.
