BOSTON -- Fifteen Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships as the Amherst College women's track and field team competed at Middlebury's Small College Invitational hosted by the TRACK at new balance on Sunday.
Amherst will return to the track on Friday, February 7 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, February 8 at 10 a.m. the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Starting out the day strong for the Mammoths, first-year
Flora Biro placed third overall in the mile, producing a time of 5:02.35 in her mile debut while senior
Sylvan Wold placed fifth overall with a season best of 5:09.51. Both times met the qualifying standard for the New England Division III Championships.
* Senior
Eliza Cardwell won the 60m hurdles registering a winning time of 9.08 seconds and posted a season best of 8.99 seconds in the preliminary round to qualify for the New England Championships and puts Cardwell in the top 20 in Division III this season. Junior
Arissa Grace McGowan finished second in the 60m hurdle finals in a time of 9.22.
* Junior
Piper Lentz placed second in the 800m out of 51 finishers delivering a season best of 2:15.05 which currently ranks 13th in Division III this season.
* Sophomore
Héloïse Hughes won the 200m out of a field of 57 runners notching a winning time and personal record of 25.09.
* The 4x400m relay team of
Ava Zielinski,
Isabella Lozier,
Hannah Adhikari, and Lentz won their heat and finished fourth overall posting a time of 4:09.06.
* Cardwell continued to perform well in the long jump, placing fourth overall with a New England qualifying mark of 5.28m.
* First-year
Lily Meadows placed fifth overall in the shot put recording a New England qualifying mark of 11.43m.
