Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Dann-Tastic #3 Mammoths blank #5 Oswego State, 4-0

OSWEGO, NY – A hat trick from junior Gretchen Dann and a goal by sophomore Cara Mancin helped the #3-ranked Amherst College women's hockey team to a 4-0 win over 5th-ranked Oswego State University Lakers at Marano Ice Arena Tuesday morning.

The shutout marks the 30th career shutout for Mammoth goaltender Natalie Stott, who finished with 26 saves.

The Mammoths' record improved to 11-2-1 overall.

Tune in for the women's ice hockey team's next in-conference match against Wesleyan College this Friday (Jan. 24) at 7 p.m. on the Cardinal's home ice in Middletown, CT.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • After an Amherst penalty kill, first-year Sami Lester, under defensive pressure from the Lakers, circled back and passed from neutral ice to Ayla Abban at center. Abban's shot was blocked, rebounding to Dann, positioned in the slot, who carried the puck out to the right post and lifted it into the back of the net with 7:28 left in the first period.
  • From behind Oswego's net, Mammoth Marie-Eve Marleau captured the puck and sent it back to Dann stationed by the left point for a wrist shot on the net, for her second goal just 54 seconds into the second period.
  • Lester's pressure on the Lakers' offensive attack led to the next goal, as Mancini was able to possess the puck and out-maneuver the Oswego defense down the center of the ice. Mancini drew out the Lakers' goaltender, Lexi Levy, towards her left post, where she then directed her shot off of Levy's glove side 14:02 into the second period.
  • During an Amherst power play at the 11-minute mark of the final period, Oswego's Mack Hull had a shorthanded chance. Hull and Simon Bednarik executed a give-and-go, with Hull's shot going wide. Hull received the puck again after several passes, but Stott maintained the shutout with a save.
  • With 11:53 remaining in the third period, and in the midst of a Mammoth power play, a clear from out of the Lakers' zone sent the puck toward Amherst's net for Dann to collect. Unassisted, Dann took the puck all the way down the length of the ice toward the left face-off circle and lifted the puck into the top right corner of the net for her third goal of the match and fourth of the season.
