STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Five Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships as the Amherst College men's track and field team opened their 2025 season at the NYC Gotham Cup hosted by the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Friday afternoon.
Amherst will return to the track tomorrow at the Middlebury Winter Invitational at 9 am.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
Sam Young finished as the runner up in the 5000m clocking in a time of 15:16.37.
* In the 500m, junior
Ben Davis placed second overall posting a time of 1:04.80.
* In the 400m, first-year
Kean Tanyi-Tang ran a time of 50.62 in his collegiate debut which is a New England Division III Championship qualifying time, while senior
Jai Dreher finished in 51.54.
* Senior
Nick Edwards-Levin placed third in the mile registering a time of 4:14.06, while junior
Aidan Gemme placed seventh in a time of 4:17.23. Both marks were New England qualifying standards.
* Junior
Cody Pierce placed fifth in the 200m delivering a New England qualifying time of 22.05.
* Sophomore
Stan Craig placed fourth in the 3000m, posting a New England qualifying time of 8:30.58.
* The 4 x 800m relay team of
Gent Malushaga,
Jack Stahl,
Finn O'Hara, and Davis finished third overall in a time of 7:58.15.
* In the distance medley relay, the team of Edwards-Levin,
Will Nagy,
Austin Brown, and
Harrison Talcott placed third with a time of 10:45.91.
