Amherst remains undefeated, sweeps Clark University 3-0

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College volleyball team picked up their eighth straight victory on Tuesday night. The Mammoths swept the Cougars 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-17) in their first home game of the season. 

Amherst (8-0) will be back on the road against Bates College on Friday, September 20, at 7pm for their first conference match of the season.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

* In the opening set of the evening, the two teams battled back and forth. Two kills from senior Kinsey Cronin helped the Mammoths tie the set, 10-10, but the Cougars continued to rally. Three consecutive kills from Charlotte Rasmussen and a shared block by Rasmussen and Brielle Renwick helped the Mammoths take the lead 22-20. The Mammoths held on to the lead, and a Cougar service error ended the set, 25-22.

* The second set was tied at 8-8, but the Mammoths played strong through the middle of the set. Cronin and Anaya Thomas each had two kills, and Renee Liou notched a service ace to bring the score to 15-10 in favor of the Mammoths. Liou set up kills for Renwick and Rasmussen, and a kill from Chideraa Ngwadom ended the set, 25-18.

* In the third and final set, the Mammoths once again took the lead after eight points. The Mammoths never trailed again, with Rasmussen earning three kills, Ngwadom and Liou combining for a block, and first-year Ellie Meyers and Abby Nichols each scoring two kills. A shared block by Tiana Richardson and Renee Liou ended the match, 25-17.

BY THE NUMBERS

* Rasmussen led the Mammoths with 12 kills on the night. Cronin tallied eight kills and Thomas had seven.

* Lizzie Papalia led the team with 11 digs and Teraszkiewicz registered eight.
