#17 Amherst return to bounce back with 8-1 road win over Bates

LEWISTON, ME – On Saturday morning, the #17 Amherst College men's tennis team were dominant versus the Bates College Bobcats at the Wallach Tennis Center. The Mammoths eased past the Bobcasts with a score of 8-1 in sunny conditions.

Amherst's win at Bates was their twelfth of the season and brings the Mammoths' record to 12-4 (7-2 in NESCAC). Up next: Amherst have one more regular season match remaining in their season before the NESCAC Tournament beginning next Friday. The Mammoths now travel to Medford, MA, to take on the #11 Tufts University Jumbos on their outdoor Vouté Courts at 10am tomorrow.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • An 8-6 win at the #2 spot and an 8-2 win at the #3 spot gave Amherst two crucial wins to take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles matches.
  • Then, each of Amherst's six singles players took down their Bates opponents in straight sets.
  • In five of the six singles, Amherst won the first sets without dropping a game, showing confident performances throughout the lineup.
