Huang, #14 Amherst sit atop leaderboard after first round of Leaman Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Led by junior Jessica Huang, the Amherst College women's golf team sits atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Jack Leaman Invitational on Saturday at The Orchards Golf Club.

The reigning NESCAC champion Mammoths carded a team score of 299 (+11) on the par-72 course to finish the first round one stroke ahead of Wellesley.

Huang shot a 3-under 69, making five birdies to finish the first round in first place with a two-stroke lead over fellow Kiwi Aileen Du of Wellesley.

First-year Lindsey Huang (no relation to Jessica) shot a 4-over 76 for the Mammoths to tie for ninth place. First-year Abigail Kim and sophomore Kaia Wu each carded a 5-over 77 to tie for 15th place, highlighted by an eagle by Kim on the 13th hole, a 420-yard par 5.

Amherst's "B" team placed sixth of the 17 teams in the field, with senior Jenny Hua shooting a 3-over 75 to tie for sixth place and classmate Priya Bakshi carding a 5-over 77 to tie for 15th place.

The Mammoths, ranked 14th in the nation in the latest WGCA Division III poll, are back on the course on Sunday (April 21) for the final round of the tournament with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
