#11 Amherst tallies third-place finish at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Amherst College women's golf team pulled away in the final round on Sunday to finish third at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on the par-72 Indian Mound Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club.

After entering the day tied for third place, the reigning NESCAC champion Mammoths, ranked 11th in the nation in the latest WGCA Division III poll and 12th in the Clippd rankings, shot a team score of 319 (+31) in Sunday's final round for a three-round team score of 936 (+72), good for sole possession of third place in a field of 18 teams that includes four other nationally ranked squads. Wellesley won the team title after shooting the best round of the day at 312 (+24) and tallying a total team score of 922 (+58), while Williams first-year Emma Abramson was the individual medalist with a three-round score of 223 (+7).

Sophomore Kaia Wu was the low scorer for the Mammoths on Sunday, shooting her best round of the weekend with a 4-over 76 after birdies on the final two holes. Wu led the tournament with 10 birdies on the weekend and finished tied for 17th in the field of 102 golfers with a three-round score of 236 (+20).

First-year Annabelle Chen was Amherst's most consistent golfer on the weekend and finished as the top Mammoth on the leaderboard in a tie for 12th place after shooting a 7-over 79 on Sunday for a three-round score of 233 (+17).

First-year Abigail Kim shot an 8-over 80 and junior Jessica Huang carded a 12-over 84 on Sunday. Kim and Huang finished in a tie for 23rd with a 238 (+22). Junior Ivy Haight finished tied for 36th place with a score of 243 (+27).

The Mammoths return to action on Saturday, April 13, when they are set to tee off in the two-day Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational.
