Career-best round from Haight has #11 Amherst in fourth place after first round at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Led by a career-best round of 77 from junior Ivy Haight, the Amherst College women's golf team kicked off its spring schedule on Friday at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, sitting in fourth place after the first of three rounds on the par-72 Indian Mound Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club.

The reigning NESCAC champion Mammoths, ranked 11th in the nation in the latest WGCA Division III poll, carded a team score of 314 (+26) to rank fourth amongst the field of 18 teams that includes four other nationally ranked squads. Seventh-ranked Redlands scored a 306 (+18) to sit atop the team leaderboard with Redlands senior Andrea York holding the individual lead after shooting a 1-over 73.

Haight shot a 5-over 77 and is tied for 10th place on the individual leaderboard. Junior Jessica Huang, sophomore Kaia Wu and first-year Annabelle Chen each took different routes to matching scores of 79 (+7) to tie for 22nd in the field of 102 golfers. Wu led the field with five birdies in her opening round.

The tournament continues on Saturday (March 23) at 8 a.m. The Mammoths are set to tee off from the first hole beginning at 8:54 a.m.
