NEW LONDON, Conn. – An action-filled third period advanced the Amherst College men's ice hockey team to a 7-3 win over Connecticut College at Dayton Arena, with back-to-back short-handed goals and a hat trick for senior
Ryan Tucker.
The Mammoths climbed to a 13-8-1 record overall and an 8-7-1 mark for in-conference play. The Mammoths will play again next Friday (Feb. 16) at home against Williams College at 7 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

Ben Ritter lifted the puck into the Camels zone over the net for Tucker to trap it down and earn his first goal of the evening at 8:51 into the second period.
* The Mammoths' second goal was credited to
Connor McGinnis, where
Josh Burke started the play from the right corner. Burke sent the puck to
Spencer Kimball by the right point, where it was finally sent to McGinnis, stationed at the blue line, for a shot into the back of the net at 10:19 in the second period.
* Connecticut College broke the shutout at 17:25 into the second period. Cole Eichler carried the puck into the high slot to dish it off to Steven Ardagna at the blue line. Eichler received the puck once more and found the back of the net.
* The first goal of the final period occurred during a Camel power play, where
Bobby Luca intercepted their offensive pass and skated into a breakaway. Luca engaged the goaltender one-on-one and maneuvered the puck into the net with 18:21 left.
* Earning the Mammoths another short-handed goal,
Alex Wisco made a save and cleared the puck to Burke to carry down the ice.
Max Thiessen was positioned to receive the puck, where he then shot it into the top right corner of the net at 2:55 in the third period.
* Less than a minute later,
Vincent Velocci lifted the puck to
Quinton Fox, where he dished it off to his left for
Andrew Carmody to take the finishing shot 3:40 into the final period.
* At the 5:33 mark, Tucker earned his second goal after receiving the puck off a clear and shot off his rebound.
* The Mammoths' final goal occurred after Wisco made a stellar glove save for
Zachary Jesse to pick up the rebound. Jesse sent the puck up to
Matt Vander Vort, where Tucker buried it into the net for his third goal of the evening at 8:36.
* Connecticut College answered with their own goal at 9:46. Will Winship controlled the puck after an Amherst interception and took a shot. Logan Cleary managed to possess the rebound and found the back of the net.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Mammoths outshot the Camels, 45-33.
* Connecticut College won 42 of the 74 faceoffs this evening. Velocci won 12 of the 17 he took for Amherst.
* Both teams were 0-for-3 on power plays. However, Amherst scored two short-handed goals, while Conn. College scored one.
* Wisco saved 30 of the 33 shots on net.
