AMHERST, Mass. -- Ten Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships as the Amherst College women's track and field team opened the 2024-25 season split between the Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University and the Wesleyan Winter Invitational on Saturday.
The Mammoths return to action in 2025 as they compete in the Middlebury Winter Invitational on Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18.
COLYEAR-DANVILLE HIGHLIGHTS:
* In the mile, junior
Piper Lentz finished as the top Division III runner in the field placing 37th overall and setting a New England Division III Championship qualifying standard of 5:06.14.
* Junior Zoë Marcus placed 13th overall and finished as the top Division III runner in the 800m crossing the line in 2:15.46 while first-year Hannah Adhikari finished 20th overall recording a time of 2:18.09. Both Mammoths set New England Division III qualifying marks.
* In the 3000m, senior
Julia Schor clocked in a New England Championship qualifying time of 10:01.47 while first-year Audrey Seeger posted a New England qualifying time of 10:14.49.
WESLEYAN HIGHLIGHTS:
* Four out of the five Mammoths who raced in the 5000m qualified for the New England Division III Championships with first-year Flora Biro placing second overall with a time of 17:26.46. Classmates Hannah Stephenson, Addison McGoey, and junior
Allison Lounsbury finished third, fourth, and fifth while registering times of 18:11.55, 18:27.58, and 18:29.64, respectively. First-year Rowan Bixler finished just outside the qualifying standard clocking in a time of 18:46.41.
* Senior
Payton Sorensen recorded a New England qualifying mark in the pole vault by posting a mark of 3.25m and finishing second overall while classmate
Jordan Hecker placed third notching a mark of 2.95m.
