MIDDLETOWN,
Conn. -- The Amherst College men's swimming and diving team finished as the runner ups in the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday.
The Mammoths claimed five individual victories and produced one B-Cut performance to finish the weekend second overall with a score of 940.5 points while Coast Guard claimed the championship title with 1027.5 points. Trinity finished in third with 683 points.
The Mammoths, ranked 23rd in the nation in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, will return to the pool on Friday, January 3 as they host Babson at 5 pm.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Senior
Jaden Olson started the day strong for the Mammoths, placing third overall in the 100-yard butterfly registering a time of 49.66.
* In the 400-yard individual medley, junior
Michael Jang finished in third delivering a time of 4:07.91 while first-year
Joel Chen placed fourth in 4:13.96.
* First-year
Jack Goepfrich recorded a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle posting a time of 1:42.71 while junior
Ethan Van De Water finished in fourth place with a time of 1:44.31.
* Sophomore
Henry Liu and junior
Fynlan Nadel tied for first place touching the wall in 56.09 while senior
Tor Metelmann recorded a fifth-place finish in 56.74.
* In the 200-yard backstroke, the Mammoths went two, three, four as senior
Andrew Yuen clocked in a time of 52.09 while junior
Jonah Luetke posted a time of 52.31 and junior
Emmanuel Odim finished in 52.75.
* In the 200-yard medley relay, the Amherst A team notched a runner-up finish in 1:31.32 while the Amherst B team placed fifth in 1:34.86.
* First-year
Tyler Palm won the three-meter and one-meter dives registering 223.45 and 199.95 points, respectively.
* First-year
Charlie McMillan claimed a runner-up finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in 16:34.27.
* In the 200-yard backstroke, Luetke finished second overall touching the wall in 1:53.26.
* Van De Water placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.02 while Goepfrich finished fifth overall in 47.10.
* Liu won the 200-yard breaststroke posting an NCAA B-Cut winning time of 2:01.41 while Metelmann finished as the runner up in 2:03.19 and Jang placed fifth in 2:06.44.
* In the 200-yard butterfly, Nadel finished second overall in 1:52.46 while first-year
Teddy Sun placed third in 1:53.77 and
Henry LeCates finished fifth in 1:55.80.
* The Amherst A and B teams finished second and third in the 400-yard freestyle relay recording times of 3:08.62 and 3:09.30, respectively.
