BOSTON, MAThe Amherst College women's hockey team took home the trophy for the 17th annual Codfish Bowl Tournament after a 4-0 win over the University of Massachusetts Boston at Edward T. Barry Ice Rink Sunday afternoon.

This marks the second consecutive tournament win for Amherst.

Amherst first-year forward Ayla Abban was named tournament MVP, scoring three goals in the two tournament games.

The Mammoths improved to a 7-0-0 on the season.

The Mammoths face their next opponent, Norwich University, on January 5th at 3 p.m. in Northfield, VT for the East West Classic College Cup Semifinals.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • At 3:38 into the first period, the Beacons circled the puck behind their own net and cleared the puck across the crease. Mammoth Kelsey Stewart intercepted the dangerous pass for the turnover and fired the puck towards net for Marie-Eve Marleau to get the deflection for the first goal of the evening.
  • In purple, Maeve Reynolds put offensive pressure on UMass Boston, where she was then able to steal the puck and send a wrist shot towards the goaltender. Off the rebound, Bea Flynn skated in from the slot and capitalized for a goal at 12:20 in the first period.
  • On a Mammoth power play opportunity, Gretchen Dann collected the puck from the Mammoth's zone, and possessed it all the way down the ice in a 5-on-3 opportunity. Dann skated into the crease and backhanded the puck into the net at 2:12 for her first goal of the season.
  • Stationed by the right point, Stewart received a loose puck off a Beacon clear, where she fired it toward the goal. Abban, by the post, redirected the puck past the goaltender at 5:08 in the final period.
