BOSTON,
MA – A pair of third-period goals by first-year
Ayla Abban and a first period goal by
Bea Flynn put the Mammoths up 3-0 over St. Olaf College at Edward T. Barry Ice Rink for the first round of the UMB Codfish Bowl Tournament.
The Mammoths improve to a 6-0 record overall, and remain 4-0 for in-conference play.
Amherst will face its next opponent at 4 p.m. tomorrow against host UMass Boston for the final round of the Codfish Bowl tournament.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Amherst's
Annabel Raffin passed the puck up the boards to Flynn, for her to rip the wrist shot towards net, where it rolled past the goaltender with 10:42 in the first period.
* With 9:45 left in the final period of play, Mammoth
Alyssa Xu cleared the puck for Abban to skate onto, collect it, and fire it into the back of the net for her 5th career goal.
* Xu, near the blue line, passed to Raffin, whose shot deflected off the post into the crease, where Abban finished it for a goal at 15:36 in the third period.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Mammoths outshot the Lions 40-18.
* Amherst had the edge with face offs, winning 36 of the 55 this evening.
Anna Baxter won 14 of the 18 she took, and
Maeve Reynolds won 13 of her 20.
* The Mammoths went 1-4 on power plays, whereas the Lions went 0-2.

Natalie Stott earned the shutout over St. Olaf's, saving all 18 shots the Lions had on net. It was the 25th shutout of her career.
