#4 Mammoths skate shine off Golden Bears, 2-0

SPRINGFIELD, MA Goals from Marie-Eve Marleau and Cara Mancini led the Amherst College women's hockey team to a 2-0 decision over Western New England University at Olympia Ice Center Tuesday afternoon. 

This evening's match-up marked Amherst goaltender Natalie Stott's 24th career shutout, saving all 20 shots the Golden Bears fired on net. 

The Mammoths have improved their record to 5-0 overall and remain undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 mark.

The Mammoths will face St. Olaf College in the opening game of the UMB Codfish Bowl Tournament this Saturday (Nov. 30) at 4 p.m. The match will take place in Boston, Massachusetts.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • With 53.8 seconds left in the first period, Amherst first-year Bea Flynn intercepted a puck in the Golden Bears' zone, skated behind the net, and fed Marleau, who backhanded it across the crease for the Mammoths' first goal.
  • Natalie Fu's offensive pressure set up Mancini for the steal, where she was able to send a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net, securing a second goal at 9:23 in the second period. 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Mammoths outshot the Golden bears 52-20. 
  • Amherst won 35 of the 48 face-offs against Western New England, with Maeve Reynolds winning 16 of the 18 she took, and Anna Baxter winning 10 of the 14 she took. 
  • Amherst was 0-1 on power plays, whereas Western New England was 3-0. 
  • Stott saved all of the 20 shots she faced on net to solidify the shutout.
