Amherst, Mass – The Amherst College volleyball team battled against NESCAC opponent Bowdoin College on Friday night, ultimately falling in straight sets (22-25, 21-25, 21-25).
Amherst falls to 10-3 on the season and 1-3 in the NESCAC. Bowdoin advances to 8-4 on the season, 1-2 in the NESCAC. The Mammoths will be back on the court tomorrow, Saturday, October 5th to face another NESCAC foe, the Colby College Mules. The match begins at 2pm.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* The Mammoths and the Polar Bears traded points throughout the first set with kills from
Sofia Camilo,
Anaya Thomas, and
Charlotte Rasmussen keeping the Mammoths in the match. The Mammoths had four service aces throughout the first set, but it wasn't enough to stop the Polar Bears. With the score tied 22-22, Bowdoin tallied three straight kills and took the set, 25-22.
* The second set was tied 7-7 with kills from Thomas and
Kinsey Cronin helping the Mammoths. The Polar Bears gained some offensive momentum with kills by Alison Smith and Mina Mittler, and never trailed again. The Mammoths kept the score close with
Allie McLaughlin and
Tiana Richardson each tallying two kills, and Camilo and Cronin earning a crucial block, but the Polar Bears maintained their strength and won the set, 25-21.
* The third set was a similar story, with the set tied at 13-13. The Polar Bears scored the next 7 of 9 points to make it a 20-15 game. Two kills from Thomas and a service ace from
Lizzie Papalia brought the score to 20-18, but kills by the Polar Bear's Ashley Jazbec lifted Bowdoin to a 25-21 victory.
