Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#4 Mammoths nip Polar Bears, 1-0

BOWDOIN, Me. –  A late goal from Marie-Eve Marleau sent the fourth ranked Amherst College women's hockey team past the Bowdoin College Polar Bears on Friday night.

With the win Amherst improves to 13-2-2 and Bowdoin falls to 8-9-2. Amherst will face the Bears again tomorrow, Saturday January 27, for a 3 p.m. puck drop back in Watson Arena. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • With 14:36 left in the first period, Bowdoin had their first real opportunity at goal. The Bears had a 2 person break away resulting in a shot from Maddie Montanaro, but she was stopped by Natalie Stott.
  • With 15:25 played Mary Thompson skated down the right side of the ice taking a shot low left but it was saved by Bowdoin goalkeeper Sarah Peterson.
  • The Mammoths ended the period strong with a series of shots from Gretchen Dann and Rylee Glennon, both shots were stopped by Peterson.
  • In the second period with 11:03 left, Ellie DeCarlo skated down the center of the ice taking a shot that was just wide left. The puck was found by Carlisle Brush who took another shot from far right but was stopped by Peterson.
  • With 5:29 left Elena DiMagno skated down the left side of the ice on a 1v1 taking a shot that was blocked by Clare O'Connor
  • In the third period with 16:48 left the Mammoths started a power-play. Amherst fired a series of shots from Glennon, Thompson, and Emily Hohmann but the Bears were able to successfully kill the penalty.
  • With 11:14 left Marie-Eve Marleau circled through the Bears defense passing to Maeve Reynolds, who then gave it right back to Marleau which allowed her to shoot the puck bottom right scoring the first goal of the game.
  • With 1:01 left Bowdoin pulled Peterson for a last ditch effort at goal but came up short.

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • The Bears outshot the Mammoths 13-10 the first period, and the Mammoths outshot the Bears 21-16 in the second and they tied for shots 15-15 in the third.
  • Amherst won 32 of the 56 face-offs, with Anna Baxter winning 13.
  • Stott made 26 saves and Peterson made 24.
