Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

# 3 Mammoths ice Cadets, 2-0

NORTHFIELD, VT –  A strong first period combined with Natalie Stott's 16 third-period saves helped earn the third-ranked Amherst College women's hockey team a 2-0 victory Wednesday night against the Norwich University Cadets. 

With the win Amherst improves to 11-1-2 and Norwich falls to 11-4-2. Amherst next faces NESCAC rival Wesleyan University this Saturday, January 20, at home in Orr Rink for a 3 p.m. tilt.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

* The Mammoths had their first opportunity at goal 5:53 into the first period. Maeve Reynolds skated down the right side of the ice, shooting to Norwich goalie Leocadia Clark's bottom left. The puck rebounded to Marie-Eve Marleau who got a shot off but was blocked by Clark.

* Only 30 seconds later Kelsey Stewart took another shot from far left, the puck rebounded and was found again by Marleau, who this time found the back of the net scoring the Mammoth's first goal.

* With 10:05 left the Cadets fired a series of shots from Lauren Tuzik from the left and then Wilda Ohman from the center off her rebound. Both shots were saved by Amherst goalkeeper Natalie Stott 

* With 1:20 left in the period, Rylee Glennon skates through the Cadets' defense, she finds Anna Baxter in front of the goal who nets the puck pushing the Mammoths to a 2-goal lead. 

* In the second period, with 15:10 left, the Cadets skated around the back of the Mammoth net, resulting in Grace Joscelyn taking a shot from bottom left but Stott made the save.

* With 2:25 left Madison Anderson shot from close left of the Mammoths goal, and then again off the rebound from her shot, this time barely shooting wide of the net.

* With 1:42 left Glennon skated towards Clark for a 1-0 opportunity but was unable to find the back of the net. 

* The Cadets started the third period off strong with a series of shots on the Mammoths. These efforts culminated 3:10 into the perio with an opportunity at net from Olivia Boyer from just left of the goal. Stott slide to stop her shot. 

* With 8:59 left the Cadets had another opportunity at goal, with Brooks skating down the right taking an uncontested shot, but Stott made the save.

* With 5:40 left, on a Norwich power play, Reynolds stole the puck from the Cadets, resulting in a 2 v 1 alongside Alyssa Xu, the pair was stopped from finding the back of the net by a save from Clark.   

* With 1:41 left, the Cadets pull Clark and call a timeout for a last ditch effort at goal, but they were unsuccessful.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* The Mammoths outshot the Cadets over the first two frames, 17-12, but were outshot 16-5 in tie third, giving Norwich the final advantage, 28-22.

* The Mammoths won 30 of the 45 face-offs, with Baxter winning 14.

* The Mammoths were whistled for 4 penalties and the Cadets for 3. Neither team was able to convert their power plays into a goal.

* Stott made 28 saves, 16 in the third period. Clark made 20 saves.
