AMHERST, Mass. – Senior forward
Muffie Mazambani scored the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter to lift the Amherst College field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Colby College in NESCAC action on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field.
The Mammoths, ranked 11th in the nation in the latest NFHCA Division III poll, improved to 4-3 overall and leveled their conference record at 2-2, while the Mules fell to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in NESCAC play.
The Mammoths are back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 27), visiting Connecticut College for a NESCAC tilt at 7 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The game was scoreless until the final minute of the second quarter. Junior back
Kate Smith inserted a penalty corner to Mazambani, who moved through the circle and passed back to Smith, waiting at the goal post to redirect the ball into the goal for her second goal of the season.
* The Mules evened the score in the third quarter when junior back Casey Winslow found classmate Pernilla Shaw in transition and Shaw put away her fifth tally of the season.
* The game-winning goal came in the 48th minute when
Abbey Kays sent a pass to Mazambani, who fired a shot from the center of the circle for her seventh goal of the year.

Sara Nidus made three saves to earn the win for the Mammoths as Amherst held an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
* Penalty corners were 5-4 in favor of the Mammoths with Smith's second-quarter tally the only goal coming as a result.
