Director of Athletics Don Faulstick announced Tuesday that Hannah Chappell-Dick has been named the head coach of the Amherst College men's and women's cross country program.
Chappell-Dick joins Amherst from Brown University, where she was promoted to head coach of the women's cross country program in February after joining the Brown cross country/track & field coaching staff in June of 2021.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead the Amherst men and women as they work towards excellence within the NESCAC and the NCAA," Chappell-Dick said. "(Assistant) Coach (Veronica) Rocco has done a fantastic job of providing solid ground for the team to stand on during this transition. Thank you to Don Faulstick, Coach (Steve) Rubin, and the others on the search committee for your trust in me with this exceptional group of young people."
"Together, we will work to empower the student-athletes to reach the high goals that they have set for themselves. I am already so inspired by the student-athletes' dedication, determination, and joy in the pursuit."
At Brown, Chappell-Dick helped coach first-year Nimrit Ahuja, who qualified for the 2023 Pan-Am U20 Championships in the 5000m at Brown by finishing 2nd in the USATF U20 Championships this summer.
Prior to her Brown tenure, Chappell-Dick was a graduate assistant cross country and track & field coach at the University of Florida. She spent two years with the Gators (2019-21) where she assisted in coaching four NCAA Division I All-Americans while also supervising practices and training in addition to receiving her MBA.
"Hannah gets the D3 model from being a five-time All-American athlete at Eastern Mennonite and is committed to supporting students on and off the course and track," Faulstick said. "She's worked with some of the most respected distance minds and athletes in the country -- we're excited that she'll bring those experiences to our teams. I am excited to have her join our staff."
Before Florida, Chappell-Dick was a volunteer assistant coach at Georgia Tech from 2018-19. There, Chappell-Dick helped the women's cross country program earn its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2001. On the men's side, she assisted in coaching an NCAA All-American and USA Semifinalist.
In 2017, Chappell-Dick served as the interim head men's and women's cross country coach at her alma mater, Eastern Mennonite University. As a student-athlete at EMU, Chappell-Dick was one of 30 NCAA Women of the Year Honorees and a five-time NCAA Division III All-American.
Chappell-Dick graduated as EMU's school record holder in the 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4×100m relay, 4×400m relay and distance medley relay, and held the ODAC record in the mile. She was a three-time Regional Athlete of the Year, a six-time ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and a two-time EMU Athlete of the Year. She also served as a team captain and was chair of SAAC. She graduated in 2016 with a degree in biology while earning Cords of Distinction as one of the top 10 in her class.
