AMHERST, Mass. - Six student-athletes across three of the Amherst men's teams were named to the College Sports Communicators At-Large Academic All-District, it was announced today. Senior
Josh Burke (Tampa, Fla.) from men's ice hockey, sophomore
Jan Ebbinge (Queenstown, New Zealand) from men's golf, and seniors
Bennett Chow (Chicago, Ill.),
Bob Gross (Potomac, Md.),
Thompson Lau (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and
Matthew Sheinberg (New Canaan, Conn.) from men's lacrosse all received the recognition.
Formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA), the CSC divides the NCAA institutions into nine geographic districts, with Amherst being located in District One. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a significant contributor to their team with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. For ice hockey and lacrosse players, nominees must have competed in 90 percent of the team's total games played or have started 66 percent of the team's total games. In golf, nominees must have competed in 70 percent of the team's total events that were team scoring events.
Burke, an economics, statistics, and mathematics triple major, closes out his collegiate career with his first At-Large All-District nod. He closed out his time on the ice earning back-to-back All-NESCAC First Team Selections and was named a semifinalist for the Joe Concannon Award this past season. Burke appeared in all 25 games for Amherst, and led the team in goals (12), assists (14), and points (26). In his 12 goals, he had five power play goals, one short-handed goal, and three game-winning goals.
Ebbinge, a mathematics major, earns his first At-Large All-District nod after a strong sophomore season for the Mammoths. He has been named to the All-NESCAC First Team each year and back-to-back PING All-Region nods. His strongest individual performances of the year were a medalist finish at the Farmingdale State College Spring Invitational with a total score of 3-under over two days of competition and placing tied for 13th at NESCAC Championships (+14 over three rounds).Â
Chow, an economics major, earns his first At-Large All-District nod in his final season in the Pioneer Valley. He contributed to the scoring for the Mammoths with 20 goals, with two game-winning goals and a man up goal, and 10 assists. Chow closes his time in the Pioneer Valley with 64 goals and 30 assists.
Gross, an economics major, earns his second At-Large All-District recognition in his senior year with the Mammoths. He added this accolade to the NESCAC Rookie of the Year from 2023 and All-NESCAC Second selection after the 2024 season, USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention in his sophomore year, NESCAC Player of the Week in his first year, and USA Lacrosse Division III Player of the Week in his first year. Gross contributed 26 goals, including a game winning goal and a man up goal, to lead the team in the scoring efforts. He ended his time at Amherst with 138 goals and 84 assists, surpassing the 100 goal mark in his junior year.
Lau, an economics and mathematics double major, received his third straight At-Large All-District nod in his final season for Amherst. He has earned CSC Academic All-American twice and now has a chance to earn it for a third time in his senior year. Lau led the team in caused turnovers with 28 and was tied for second in ground balls with 39. He added to the scoring threat for the Mammoths with one goal and an assist in 14 appearances. This adds to his long list of accolades with three All-NESCAC selections, three All-Region picks, and multiple All-American selections from the USILA and USA Lacrosse to wrap up his collegiate career.Â
Sheinberg, an economics major, received his third straight At-Large All-District in his last season in the Pioneer Valley. He was fourth on the team in ground balls with 35 and tied for fifth in caused turnovers with 10. Sheinberg notched nine goals and eight assists in 16 appearances for the Mammoths. He has also earned All-NESCAC recognitions each of the last three seasons, two All-Region nods, and a variety of All-American honors.
Men's Ice Hockey finished the 2025-26 season with a record of 12-11-2 overall, and finished their season with a NESCAC Quarterfinals Appearance.
Men's Golf closed out the 2025-26 campaign tied for fourth at the NESCAC Championships.
Men's Lacrosse ended the 2026 with a 8-8 overall record. They hosted a NESCAC Quarterfinal game and made the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team and saw their season come to a close in the NCAA Second Round.
