SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Ten Mammoths earned All-New England honors as the Amherst College women's track and field team wrapped up competition on Saturday at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Springfield College.
The Mammoths finished eighth out of 49 teams at the meet with 38 points. MIT repeated as champions with 103 points.
Next weekend the Mammoths will take on the best of New England from all three NCAA divisions at the NEICAAA Championships on Friday (May 12) and Saturday (May 13) at Northeastern University's Solomon Track in Dedham.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
Eliza Cardwell posted a wind-aided time of 14.20 seconds to finish third in the 100m hurdles. The wind-aided mark does not count for records but does count for NCAA Championships qualification and ranks among the top 20 nationally in Division III this season. First-year
Arissa Grace McGowan was just behind, finishing fourth with a wind-aided time of 14.55 seconds to earn her first All-New England honors, awarded to the top eight finishers in each event.
* Senior
Mary Kate McGranahan was the runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase, navigating the course in 10:53.64 to cap a season in which she earned All-New England honors in all three seasons – cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
* Junior
Carolina Andrade repeated as an All-New England performer in the javelin with a throw of 38.16m that was good for fourth place.
* Sophomore
Casie Eifrig notched an All-New England finish in her outdoor NED3 debut, running the 400m in a personal-best 58.29 seconds to finish fifth.
* First-year
Allison Lounsbury claimed All-New England honors in the 5000m in her rookie season, finishing sixth in 18:11.01.
* Junior
Trintje Nydam, first-years
Mads Rabb and
Myeh Medina, and sophomore
Julia Schor teamed up to run the 4x400m relay in 4:04.49, claiming sixth place and All-New England honors.
