HADLEY, Mass. --It was announced Wednesday that four members of the 2023 Amherst College baseball team have been selected for the 2023 Al-NESCAC team.
Junior
Luke Padian (Katonah, NY) and sophomores
Jack Sampedro (Miami, FL) and
Ryan McIntyre (Larchmont, NY) were chosen for the All-NESCAC First Team. McIntyre was a 2nd team All-NESCAC selection in 2022 as a first-year.
Sophomore
Jack McDermott (Yardley, PA) was chosen for the All-NESCAC 2nd Team.
Sampedro was the Mammoths' lead-off hitter as a designated hitter and pitched in relief. He led the conference in on-base percentage (.517) and runs scored (48). He was second in hits, second in batting average (.413) and fifth in RBIs (36) and on-base percentage (.517). He was sixth in total bases. He led the Mammoths in five offensive categories and was second in three others. He also stole 8 bases in 12 attempts this season.
McIntyre batted .389 with a 1.037 and a .464 OBP. He had eight doubles, five triples and two home runs while driving in 30 runs and scoring 37. At shortstop, he had a .967 fielding percentage with only five errors. He had a slugging pct. of .573.
Padian, a first baseman, drove in a team-high 49 runs this season, second-best in the NESCAC. He batted .363 with 10 doubles, one triple and three home runs. He had an OBP of .439 and a slugging pct. of .527.
McDermott led the conference with 17 doubles. He batted .348 on the season with those 17 doubles, 5 triples and 1 home run that gave him a .560 slugging pct. He drove home 26 runs and scored 41 runs.
The Mammoths finished 21-14-1.
