DEDHAM, Mass. – Senior
Ellis Phillips-Gallucci broke the school record in the 400m hurdles as the Amherst College men's track and field team competed in the first day of the two-day NEICAAA Championships on Friday at Northeastern University's Solomon Track. The meet includes athletes from all three NCAA divisions.
The meet continues on Saturday (May 13) beginning at 10 a.m.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Phillips-Gallucci posted a time of 52.31 seconds in the 400m hurdles preliminaries, the fastest time in the field and a new Amherst school record, breaking the mark of 52.42 seconds set in 1996 by Mario Watts '97. His time ranks third nationally in Division III this season with the top 22 times invited to the NCAA Championships. The final heat is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. on Saturday.
* First-year
Jordan Harrison won his prelim heat in the 100m dash with a time of 10.84 seconds. Harrison was the only first-year in his heat and advances to the finals scheduled for 1:20 p.m. on Saturday.
* First-year
Henry Dennen ran the 5000m in 14:34.63 to place seventh and earn All-NEICAAA honors, awarded to the top eight finishers in each event. Dennen was the only Division III first-year in the field of 28 runners.
* At the halfway point of the decathlon, sophomore
Alex Robin sits in seventh place with 2,669 points, setting personal bests in the long jump (5.73m) and shot put (10.16m).
