Carolina Andrade and first-year hurdler
Arissa Grace McGowan won NESCAC titles as the Amherst College women's track and field team finished fourth at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday at Connecticut College.
The Mammoths posted seven All-NESCAC finishes, awarded to the top three finishers in each event, and Andrade broke her own school record as she won the javelin throw.
Amherst finished the meet with 110 points to claim third place, the team's best finish since 2008. Middlebury successfully defended its conference crown, topping the field with 154 points.
Championship season continues next week as the Mammoths will compete in the New England Division III Championships, beginning Thursday (May 4) and running through Saturday (May 6) at Springfield College.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Andrade broke her own school record in the javelin and won her first NESCAC championship with a throw of 40.52m, which ranks among the top 20 nationally in Division III this season. Andrade broke her previous record mark of 38.42m that she set in 2021.
* McGowan emerged as the champion of the 100m hurdles in her NESCAC championship debut, winning the title in 15.14 seconds in a dramatic final to mark the second straight season an Amherst first-year won the event.
Eliza Cardwell won the crown in her debut last season and was the favorite in the finals after posting the top time in the preliminaries with a season-best 14.49 seconds, a time that ranks among the top 25 nationally in Division III this season, but Cardwell false-started in the final and was disqualified. McGowan, who posted the second-best time in qualifying, ran to victory.
* Senior
Mary Kate McGranahan claimed All-NESCAC honors in two events with an impressive distance double. McGranahan finished second in the 3000m steeplechase in 10:57.84 and placed third in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 17:15.02, which ranks in the top 10 among New England Division III athletes this spring. She previously earned All-NESCAC honors in cross country this past fall.
* Sophomore
Casie Eifrig was the runner-up in the 400m with a personal-best time of 58.46 seconds, a mark that ranks among the top 10 times at New England Division III schools this season. Eifrig earned her first individual All-NESCAC finish after competing on Amherst's runner-up 4x400m relay team last year.
* First-year
Allison Lounsbury placed second in the 10,000m in her NESCAC Championship debut, running a collegiate-best time of 37:11.76 to finish less than a second behind the leader with a time that ranks in the top 10 in New England this season.

Margo Pedersen teamed up to clock in at 9:29.82, the fastest time for an Amherst quartet this season and a time that ranks in the top five in New England this season.
