CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing in their final tune-up before next weekend's conference championships, the Amherst College women's track and field team sent a contingent to the Sean Collier Invitational on Sunday at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Steinbrenner Track, competing in a strong field that included athletes from all three NCAA divisions.
The Mammoths are back in action next Saturday (April 29), competing at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Connecticut College with action beginning at 9 a.m.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths posted their best finishes of the day in the hurdles events. Sophomore
Artis Phillips placed fourth in the 400m hurdles in 1:09.28 with first-year
Valerie Finke right behind her, finishing fifth in 1:10.66.
* Sophomore
Olivia Steele ran a personal-best time of 16.05 seconds in the 100m hurdles to finish sixth while classmate
Anaya Thomas was eighth with a season-best time of 16.29.
* Thomas and Steele also competed in the triple jump with Thomas placing sixth with a mark of 10.66m and Steele just behind in seventh at 10.27m.
* Sophomore
Payton Sorensen cleared 2.80m in the pole vault to finish sixth.
* Senior
Annelise Romero took eighth place in the javelin with a throw of 29.78m.
