NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Sophomore
Eliza Cardwell swept the hurdles races and classmate
Margo Pedersen won the 800m as the Amherst College women's track and field team competed in the second day of Carla Coffey Invitational on Saturday at Smith College.
The Mammoths finished second of 11 teams at the meet, scoring 153.2 points to rank behind only Middlebury's 171.5 points.
The Mammoths are back in action next weekend, competing in the Collier Invitational on Saturday, April 22, at MIT.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Cardwell won the 100m hurdles in 14.66 seconds and posted a blazing time of 1:01.68 to win the 400m hurdles, a personal best that ranks third nationally in Division III so far this season. First-year
Arissa Grace McGowan placed fourth in the 100m hurdles in 15.64 seconds and classmate
Anastasia Ioppolo was sixth in 16.00 seconds. Junior
Trintje Nydam placed seventh in both hurdles events with a personal-best 16.20 in the 100 and a time of 1:06.01 in the 400.
* Pedersen notched first collegiate win in an individual race, leading a strong Amherst contingent that claimed four of the top eight spots in the 800m. Pedersen's time of 2:14.81 is a personal best and ranks among the top 20 nationally in Division III so far this season. First-year
Bella Lozier placed third in 2:18.00 and classmate
Piper Lentz was fourth in 2:18.33, both personal bests. Sophomore
Ava Zielinski claimed eighth place with a time of 2:21.05.

Daphne Theiler was the runner-up in the 5000m run, clocking in at 18:12.19. Sophomore
Sophia Price placed fourth in 18:19.58 in her first collegiate 5k on the track.

Morgan Rome placed seventh in both the discus (30.19m) and the shot put (10.11m)
* Eifrig placed third in the 400m with a personal-best time of 58.70, which ranks among the top 10 in New England so far this season.
* McGowan, Ioppolo and Cardwell teamed with junior
Mia Bawendi to finish fourth in the 4x100m relay, circling the track in 48.62 seconds, a time that ranks in the top 10 in New England in Division III so far this season.

Julia Schor finished fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:40.18, a season-best time that ranks among the top 20 in New England. Classmate

Anaya Thomas finished sixth in her first collegiate heptathlon with 3,395 points, a score that ranks in the top 10 in New England this season.
