Bethany Martin and
Deb Thayer competed in the throws to kick off action for the Amherst College women's track and field team at the Black & Gold Invitational on Friday at Bryant University.
In a field comprised of mostly Division I athletes, Martin notched a mark of 38.47m to finish 27th in the hammer throw, while Thayer was just behind with a personal-best throw of 37.18m to finish 28th.
In the shot put, Martin finished 30th with a throw of 9.54m and Thayer was 37th with a mark of 8.79m.
With inclement weather on the way, the rest of the Black & Gold Invitational, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been moved to Sunday (April 2), when the Mammoths will launch the outdoor season in the bulk of the events with action beginning at 10 a.m.
