SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Jack Renda kicked off action for the Amherst College men's track and field team at the Black & Gold Invitational, competing in the hammer throw on Friday at Bryant University.

Competing against a field of mostly Division I athletes, Renda posted a mark of 33.40m to finish in 26th place. Maine senior Nathan Holst-Grubbe won the event with a throw of 57.90m.

With inclement weather on the way, the rest of the Black & Gold Invitational, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been moved to Sunday (April 2), when the Mammoths will launch the outdoor season in the bulk of the events with action beginning at 10 a.m.
