#9 Mammoths roll to 22-15 victory over St. John Fisher

AMHERST, Mass. -- Tanyr Krummenacher, Bayard DeMallie and Jake Bennett combined for 15 goals Saturday as the #9 Amherst College men's lacrosse team knocked off St. John Fisher on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium, 22-15.

It was the fourth straight win for the Mammoths, who improved to 5-1 overall with the victory. Amherst is back in action Wednesday when it hosts Western New England University at 6 p.m. on Gooding Field. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Mammoths built an 8-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. After falling behind 1-0, Amherst reeled off eight consecutive goals. Alex Giacobbe tied the game converting a nice pass from Matt Adams for a goal with 10:30 left in the quarter to tie the game. DeMallie gave the Mammoths their first lead with 8:41 to go with an unassisted score, his 12th of the season. Less than a minute later, DeMallie scored again, this time off a pass from Krummenacher, for a 3-1 lead. Face-off specialist Nicholas Kopp then won a face-off, raced down field and scored only six seconds later for a 4-1 lead.

* Just 39 seconds later, Krummenacher scored his first goal off the game off an assist from Bob Gross, who picked up another assist on the next Amherst goal, scored by Bennett, his first of the day, just over two minutes later. Krummenacher then made it 7-1 off an assist from Bennett before Giacobbe put his bookend stamp on the impressive run with his eighth goal of the season with 2:51 remaining to give the Mammoths an 8-1 lead. 

* Up 8-2 after the first, Amherst scored th first three goals of the second quarter to increase its lead to 11-2. Krummenacher opened the scoring 1:06 into the frame with a goal off an DeMallie assist. Only 14 seconds later, Bennett scored off an assist rom Ethan Opdahl. Krummenacher then scored again, off an assist from Gross, for the 11-2 lead with 9:11 remaining. 

* Amherst led 13-7 at the half. 



BY THE NUMBERS:

* Amherst had a 60-38 advantage in shots. The Mammoths won the battle for groundballs, 45-37. They won 22 of 41 face-offs and caused 15 turnovers in the win. 

* Krummenacher (6 g., 2 a.) notched eight points while DeMallie (5 g., 2 a.), Bennett (4 g., 3 a.) and Gross (3 g., 4 a.) each registered 7 points in the win. 

* Brodie Rayment, Thompson Lau, Lawson Laverty, Krummenacher and Kopp each had two caused turnovers.

* Kopp had a team-high 14 groundballs, with Rayment's six the next closest. He also won 21 of 37 face-offs he took. 

* Mitch Likins had nine saves in goal for the Mammoths.
