AMHERST, Mass. – Senior attack
Tanyr Krummenacher scored four goals to lead the Amherst College men's lacrosse team to a 17-9 win over Western New England University on Wednesday evening at Gooding Field.
The Mammoths, ranked eighth in the nation in the latest USILA Division III poll, improved to 6-1 with their fifth straight win, while the reigning CCC champion Golden Bears fell to 2-7.
The Mammoths are back in action on Saturday (April 1), hosting 15th-ranked Bowdoin on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last year's NESCAC semifinals.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths jumped out to an early lead, building a 6-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Krummenacher scored the first less than a minute into the game and bookended the period with a man-up tally with 1:54 to go. Junior attack

* Sophomore midfielder Zachary Mein broke through for the Golden Bears in the first minute of the second quarter before senior midfielder
Thomas Ehret restored Amherst's six-goal lead four minutes later. WNEU made its best run midway through the second quarter, scoring three unanswered goals in less than three minutes to cut the Amherst lead to 7-4. The Mammoths responded with three of their own over the final six minutes of the quarter as Krummenacher scored a man-up goal followed by a pair from Adams to complete his fourth hat trick of the season and give the Mammoths a 10-4 halftime lead.
* The Mammoths put together another spurt with three goals in less than a minute in the third quarter as senior midfielder
Bayard DeMallie scored, followed by Krummenacher and Gross in quick succession.

Dylan Hsu scored his fourth goal of the season early in the fourth quarter before DeMallie and Ehret scored later in the final frame to account for the 17-9 final score.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Sophomore
Mitch Likins matched his career high with 21 saves in goal for the Mammoths.
* In addition to Krummenacher's four goals, DeMallie and Adams each netted hat tricks for the Mammoths. Bennett and Gross each tallied two goals and two assists. Ehret scored twice for his first career multi-goal game.
* The Mammoths outshot the Golden Bears, 56-45, and held a 52-37 advantage in ground balls. Sophomore face-off specialist
Nicholas Kopp scooped up a game-high 11 ground balls and won exactly half of the 30 face-offs in the game.
* Senior midfielder Dylan Hanley tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Golden Bears in scoring.
