AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Amherst College baseball team split a doubleheader with the College of New Jersey at the Lake Myrtle Complex Tuesday, rallying to win the opener 5-3 before falling in extra innings of the nightcap, 5-4, in eight frames.
The Mammoths now stand at 2-1-1 on the season. They are off Wednesday before facing Beloit Thursday afternoon.
Game 1
* Down 3-1, Amherst rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.
Luke Padian reached on an error and
Jackson Reydel was hit by a pitch.
Jack Dove moved the runners over with an out, and a wild pitch allowed Padian to score and Reydel to move to third. After a walk to
Tyler McCord, an errant pick-off throw to third allowed Reydel to scored the tying run. With two outs and nobody on,
Christian Fagnant roped a double to right. Three successive walks, the final one to
Jack McDermott, forced in Fagnant with the tie-breaking score.
* Amherst added a run in the sixth when Fagnant drew a walk in-between two outs. a
Jack Sampedro single moved him to third, and
Jack McDermott came through with a big two-out, RBI-single to tack on a key insurance run.

Jacob Ribitzki earned his first win of the season, going six innings and allowing only four hits and no earned runs while walking two and striking out two. Sampedro earned his first save by working around two walks in the top of the seventh. Both game Tuesday were scheduled for seven innings.
* At the dish, Sampedro was on base all four times he batted, going 2 for 2 with two singles and two walks.
Game 2
* Down 4-1, Amherst rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game. Sampedro drew a lead-off walk, McDermott lined a double and McIntyre walked to load the bases with no outs. Reydel's groundout scored Sampedro to make it 4-2. Dove walked and Padian hit a sacrifice fly to center to score McDermott. With two outs, McCord came through with a clutch RBI-single through the left side of the infield that scored McIntyre with the tying run.
* TCNJ scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Christian Pedro, the fourth of four Mammoth hurlers in the game, took the loss, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 2 2/3 innings of work.
* The Mammoths had five hits in the game. McDermott was 2 for 4 and Sampedro reached base three more times, going 1 for 2 with two walks.
